During the time of your life when you're trying to find out where you fit in, whether that be with the scenes, goths, preps, jocks, etc., you might lose a lot of friends. While this can be sad, it's bound to happen eventually.
Let's face it, people change. Whether you change, or your friend changes, it's gonna happen. You might not even like the end result, but it will happen. When a friend changes, it's best to support her/him in their decision. But if that just isn't possible, or they've changed in ways that make them mean, you may just wanna break it off. That's right. Sit them down and tell it to them straight. Say politely, "I'm sorry, but you're acting like a total butt fash now, and I can't be around someone like that. I think we should just not be friends for now."
Now, obviously, they're not gonna like this, especially if you've been besties for quite a while. Just be strong. This will be hard, if you see them as your friend still. But if they're being meanies, this should be somewhat easier. It won't be super easy though. It'll still be hard when you go home and see that charm bracelet that you and your bestie made together on your trip to Sin City. But you'll make it through.
If you and a friend have recently fought, you know that some friendships make it through everything, while others crack under the pressure. It just depends on how close you and this friend really are. If you guys are true BFFs, you'll survive everything, from fights to moves. Remember that even if you guys take a friendship break, you can still go back to being friends.
A friendship break basically means that you guys had a disagreement and need to stay away from each other till you guys calm down. This could take a while. You and your friend could expect even up to a year for a cool down. Don't just jump back into the friendship and expect it to be exactly how it was before. It doesn't work like that. You need to ease back into the friendship just like you ease into a new one with a complete stranger.
If you and a friend survive all this, all the ups and downs, the guys, the broken hearts, the fights, the late night phone calls, etc, you are truly friends. Most important of all the true friend traits, they will always be there for you. They will always support you, they will always be there for you, and they will always be there to help when you're in need. Treating your friend like a friend is important. Don't treat them like some toy that you can get bored with easily. Friends have feelings.
Please don't give up on something you believe in to fit in. And if you feel like you're being messed with because of your views on something, talk to your real bestie. They can help.
